picture labels to organize kids toys pinterest

Recently, I posted about my boys deciding to share a room.  I mentioned toy storage and adding labels to bins to organize toys.  There are several reasons I think labels are important.  First, labels give everything a place.  This leads to my second reason. When everything has a place and a label, the kids can help with clean up and things actually end up in the correct place.  My kids are responsible for cleaning up their toys after playing.  They are fully capable of this because they know where everything is supposed to go.  It doesn’t matter if the bins are moved around because with a quick look at the label they know which toys belong in the bin.

Again, its important that the labels are pictures rather than words for the littles. If you use words and they can’t read, then you are putting the responsibility on yourself for getting things back to where they belong.  As a mom, I am constantly thinking about how to make life easier for the parent and child when I am organizing a kid’s space. I know what you are thinking. How do you create these picture labels? There are so many different ways.

Print a Picture

The easiest way to do this is to do a quick google search of the name of the toy and with a quick copy, paste, and print you have a picture.  When I do this I typically laminate and use a Command Brand velcro adhesive to attach. If you don’t have access to a laminator you can simply tape it to the bin using clear packing tape so that the label is secure.

Take a Picture

Another option is to simply take a picture of the toys.  I use a roll of white wrapping paper as the background and simply place the toy on the paper and snap a quick picture.  This makes it easy for children to match the exact toy to the bin.

Create with Vinyl

I was lucky enough to get a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas, so I decided to play around with a new option for the bins in my boys’ room. These are adhesive vinyl labels that I  attached to wooden labels and tied to bins. I’m having so much fun playing with this machine and I’m loving the look of the labels.  So tell me, what are you going to go label first?
