I don’t know about you, but I actually LOVE spring cleaning! I love to tackle the spaces that may be forgotten about throughout the year. There are a few spaces that I always include on my list that you may have forgotten about. Check out the spaces and my tips below.
Your Medicine Cabinet
The medicine cabinet is one of those spaces that can often go overlooked for YEARS. Here are the steps to refresh this space:
Take everything out + wipe down the space.
Look over each item. Discard anything that is expired or you won’t use. There are considerations when discarding medication, read more from the FDA. Local to Cincinnati, Matthew 25 Ministries takes pill bottle donations.
Take note of what you need to replace.
Create zones within your cabinet or closet so you can easily find the items you’re looking for.
Add product if necessary and label.
Put everything back!

Your Car
I like to organize my car like many other spaces: create zones (just on a smaller scale). To start, take everything out and clean everything (vacuum + wipe down). Create zones in your car with zippered pouches! In my car, I have the following:
The mudroom/entry closet can quickly become overwhelmed with coats, jackets, shoes, gloves, sunscreen, the list goes on and on. Each season I like to go through mine to reduce the clutter and create an organized system! Here are some tips:
Give each person a labeled bin for out-of-season items that you can easily store away out of sight (in storage, such as the basement or a storage closet). Once the season changes, dump the bin into the mudroom basket and you’re good to go! Click here for our favorite (under $10!)
Get rid of items that are expired or that you didn’t use. If an item is too small for your kids, donate it or put it into a bin for their sibling. As you transition, don’t forget to check the expiration dates on sunscreen!
Only keep out 1-2 in-season items for each category (shoes, coats/jackets, hats, gloves, etc.). Too many options mean more mess and can be overwhelming for kids when deciding what to wear.
If you’re working with a closet instead of a mudroom, try the Container Store Elfa over-the door system. Label each basket with a family member’s name and put their seasonal items such as hats and gloves in their basket.
