Remodeling your kitchen can be such an exciting time: out with the old and in with the new!✨ It’s not just about upgrading your kitchen to your style (although that is the fun part, isn’t it?). The really good part is adding more FUNCTION to your space. When your kitchen is set up to function how your family utilizes the space, you will see a world of difference!
I’ve helped many clients through kitchen remodels of all shapes and sizes. My team and I have seen it all! Because of this, I’ve also seen some trends come and go. Here’s a list of what I’ve found to be 100% worth the upgrade, and what to skip during your next kitchen remodel.
Where to splurge
WATCH: 4 things to add to your next kitchen remodel
Built-in pull-out drawer for utinsels (right by the stove)
This is such a space saver when it comes to counter space. I think we all grew up with what I like to call the “utinsel bucket” right by the stove. Yes, it is handy for easily grabbing your utinsels as you cook but it’s an eyesore and space waster. The perfect solution is this pull-out drawer that holds all of your utinsels! I absolutely love this for saving space + adding function to your kitchen.
Built-in pull-out drawer for cutting boards
While I do love an accent cutting board for decor purposes, I don’t think it’s necessary or practical to have all of your cutting boards on your counter and it can be hard to find the right space for them in a regular cabinet. These pull-out cutting board drawers are perfection. 🤩
Built-in pull-out for trash + drawer for paper towels
This is my new FAVORITE drawer. It’s a combination of a trash and recycling pull-out with a built-in spot for paper towels and spare trash bag and paper towel storage. 🤯 Talk about maximizing space!
BONUS: hire professional organizers
If you’re remodeling here’s how a profressional organizer can help:
✔️ Evaluate your space with a professional view
✔️ Take measurements
✔️ Work with the company of your choosing (Closets and More, California Closets, The Container Store, etc.)
✔️Setup a temporary solution while your space is being renovated
✔️Handle all of the logistics
✔️Setup your new space with both function and style

Where to save
There are a few areas that I’ve found aren’t necessary when it comes to your kitchen remodel. Below are my top two.
Custom drawer inserts
This sounds so great at the time, but with all of the amazing drawer organization products out there these days, it’s simply not necessary. It can also work against you in the long run because you may be considering products you currently own that you may switch out in the future. I’ve also found that often silverware doesn’t end up fitting in the custom-built inserts. Instead, try some of our favorite kitchen products.
Pull-outs under the kitchen sink
These are often not the best way to maximize your space under the sink. Instead, try some of our favorite products for organizing under your sink.
