A DIY playroom
When I started this project, the room was basically empty. The goal was to create a playroom for my client’s grandchildren that was fun, but also slightly sophisticated.  I was very excited for this project because not only was I organizing the space, but also designing and styling the room as well.  I love to create things and when we decided to DIY some projects I was ecstatic!

This family loved playing board games, so I decided to make that the focus of the room.  I remembered seeing game boards hung on the wall on Pinterest, so I decided to give it a try. We came up with our own plan on how to create these, but it was very similar to this DIY game board project.  Instead of using a table saw to create the grooves, I used a circular saw because that’s what we had on hand.  Where are the game pieces? Behind the board of course! They are stored in a plastic bag and attached using a command hook.

Of course, they also need some place to play the games! The next DIY project was this table.  The base was created using pieces of black iron, and the top was a piece of butcher block purchased at a local home decor store. The blend of metal and wood paired perfectly with the other elements in the room.

As I started placing toys on the shelves, I really thought about where to place things.  It didn’t make sense to place their favorite toys on the top shelf.  Baskets didn’t really work on the shelves because they were so narrow, so I displayed the toys just like you would decor on a shelf.  I mixed in some artwork from the grandchildren and some of their favorite books and it made the shelves complete.

I found these great chairs at another local store and they were a perfect fit for the room. They were the right size for an adult, but low enough for a young child to climb up into.  They were sophisticated like the client wanted, but also modern. I added a touch of fun with these pillows I found from this AMAZING shop on Etsy.

I’m not going to lie, I am SUPER proud of this space, and a little jealous that it’s not in my home! I still cannot believe how great this room looks, and the whole project was pretty inexpensive with all of the DIY projects!
As I look at the pictures, I still can’t decide on my favorite part. What’s your favorite part of this space?
